Spiritual Guidance

Chapter 2

There are different external and internal forms of spiritual guidance. A powerful internal form of spiritual guidance is conveyed through our state of being. We will learn that reconnecting with it and eventually learning to lovingly express our state of being, is the key to health and happiness.

We are all derived from the same essence, made from one Creator. This truth is also known in many religions and spiritual traditions. We are made to the image of God and so we all have a direct connection with Him available to us. Everyone can experience God's presence, if they truly wish to. His spiritual guidance may initially come externally, through a set of circumstances that were clearly meant for us. These circumstances will be meaningful because they provide us with some sort of solution in life. We may meet a person that says just what we need to hear or find a book that grants us insights. Opportunities may open up, where there were none. We may experience serendipity or have a deep wish answered unexpectedly. These forms of guidance are external because they come from outer sources.

Spiritual guidance can also come internally in the form of a thought, idea, intuition or dream. We may suddenly have an insight that helps us in our life. We may find ourselves in the right situation or saying just the right thing at the right time to help another, augmenting our own sense of usefulness. We may have a dream that shows us a positive side of ourselves we have long forgotten. We may experience a reconciliation with someone in a dream and hence see that such is possible for the same in real life. We may feel drawn to go somewhere at a certain time, not fully understanding why, only later to see the purpose. This type of internal guidance tends to pop up when our mind is free. If we are absorbed in ourselves and our problems, there is no space for such spiritual guidance. To predispose ourselves to this, we need to learn to create space for it. We create space internally, through practices which train us to focus our attention inwardly. We create space externally, by setting aside time and energy solely for spiritual purposes.

A powerful form of inner spiritual guidance occurs at the level of our state of being. It is an energy or presence that we notice if we are sensitive to it, when we focus our perception inwards. How we experience this can vary quite a bit from person to person. Most will feel this energy. However, others may hear or see this when they peer inward, in the form of a vibration or light. Its intensity can vary, and when subtle it can easily be discounted as unimportant. It may be described as an inner stillness, silence or space yet at the same time it is full and alive. As its intensity grows, its meaning will become clear to us. In that state of being we will feel deeply whole. We will feel cozy in our skin. It is a state where fears and insecurities melt away. It is a place where we feel connected. In this state of being, it is clear that every thought is valid and truthful. Every word has the potential to be a solution for those who are open to hear.

This level is full of meaning, yet it doesn't need words or thoughts to be understood. It is preverbal. It is the level of our intentions. Have you ever had a situation where you knew the gist of what you wanted to say, but could not find the words? Have you ever gone without something you love, and then when you received it again, felt a deep sense of appreciation. An appreciation that spoke for itself, and no words or thoughts were needed to validate it? If so, then you can see how it is possible to "know" something without expressing it in words. The gist of what we want to say and the way we feel about something is the true meaning behind our words. It is what is important, because it represents our real intentions. When our state of being is prevaded by a spiritual presence, our inner intentions are loving and we feel good. Most of us have lost control our state of being. In fact, we have even lost all awareness of it. It resides beneath our thoughts, emotions and physical sensations. When there is a distrubance in any of those areas, our state of being is obscured. We bring peace to those distrubances by making inner and outer changes aimed at meeting the needs of our soul. We need to reconcile with our past. We need to accept our present situation, or make changes if we cannot. We need to become active working members of our community, and prove our loving intentions by the quality of service we provide. We also need to devote time to our spiritual connection. Time where our attention is focused inwards with the intention to develop our capacity to feel. With persistence, we will succeed. Eventually our body will relax, our mind will become still and our emotions pacified. At such a time, we suddenly have the opportunity to see a dimension of ourselves that has long been hidden.

Many of us have had a taste of such wellness. It may have been during a childhood summer day, before we shouldered the responsibilities of life. We may have felt it when a romance was first developing, or we may have felt it with the birth of our child. For must of us, such a state of being was fleeting. In fact, it is a popular notion that such is not meant to be a frequent or growing experience. Such experiences are also incorrectly attributed to their outer circumstances, instead of the true cause. They are caused by an opening of our heart and what we feel is the flow of spiritual energy. What we feel is Love. God is Love and such experiences are meant to remind us of Him. Being touched by real, spiritual love is a gift. It is referred to as the Holy Spirit in Christian traditions and developing a direct connection to it, is know as developing a conscience. It is a direct form of spiritual guidance. If you have felt it once in your life, be grateful. There are many on this planet who have never had a taste of it their entire lives, and unless the collective attitude here changes soon, they many never have a taste.

Rest assured, such as state of being is meant to be a regular part of our lives. In fact, God's Love is constantly present in our lives. It is only our ego and the karma it creates that separates us from it. Healing our past karma and ceasing to make any more, is necessary before we will feel this Love fully. This does not just happen by staying out of trouble. It requires significant positive changes, both inner and outer. Helping us to make those changes is exactly what this short ebook and the clinic, Healthy Mind Body, is all about. As we experience this state of wellness more often, we will come to realize it is alive and responds to our awareness. Through the refinement of our loving mentality we will also come to see that by engaging with it, we can make it shine. Doing so is to directly connect with God and communicate Love to our surroundings. This Love will be understood across all languages, to anyone who is open to it. This form of Love is our Forgotten Dialect.
